I forgot to post pictures about our pioneer trek! Did I tell the blogosphere I chaperoned a pioneer trek? Because I did. Adam and I were a "Ma" and "Pa" team, and we had 13 children. back in June in upstate New York. (For an article about Mormon pioneer treks, go here.)
It was totally awesome. If you get the opportunity to go on a trek, do it! It's so fun! It's sort of like being an EFY counselor - without toilets. Adam and I successfully confused our kids as to whether or not we had just met, were dating, or were married. I had forgotten that high schoolers are generally pretty gullible. And sorta ditsy. But fun and down for just about anything. But maybe that was the pioneer clothing talking.
I think I had teenagers on the brain because last Friday I was in Ohio and had the opportunity to go back to my high school and speak to my old journalism class and two AP history classes about what I do in Washington. The teachers were definitely more interested in hearing about my job on Capitol Hill than the students were, but it was still fun. They mostly wanted to know if I get to meet a lot of famous people... to which I said, "yes of course." Lots of famous people. This place is crawling with celebs. Like this guy:
He is a reading clerk in the House of Representatives. I see him almost everyday when I watch the House floor. And I saw him on the street the other day and got excited to see him in the flesh. If you watch C-Span you will know what I mean.
I also decided I need to create a DC PowerPoint to outline exactly why I think everybody should intern in DC while they're in college. Once it's complete I will post a summary on my blog.
